Descending Together: Words for New Flesh
-
An Afternoon of Ritual Poetry
What does it mean to descend? Into the shadows, the underworlds, our own flesh? To melt into goo and emerge anew? Or not? To remain among rotten leaves and build a home under a dew-kissed pebble? As the veil is thinning this Hallowtide, we invite you to step over the threshold into the dark spaces where identity is unmade and forged anew. Drawing on themes of trans*ness and the messy liberations found at the interstice between flesh and its languages, Phyllis invokes in this ceremonial performance, visceral metamorphosis, blood and bone memory, and the whispers (or screams) of worlds to come. Through verse, sound, and collective intention we gather in the shadows to honor the violent beauty of becoming —where language acts as binding spell, where the body becomes altar, and the voice a screeching curse, or blessing.
